This digital map is an online interactive version of the WALKING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE LENAPE exhibit in the recently renovated Birdsall Room. It is intended to showcase the extent of the Native American presence in Ocean County. The Society volunteers combined their collection of known Native American artifacts with a similar collection in the New Jersey State Museum database, totaling over 200 individual locations. They then used an oversized Ocean County map to plot a dot at the site of every artifact “find”, creating a visual display of the presence of the Lenape throughout the County.
